Calvert Hospice Festival of Trees to celebrate 20 years

Friday, Nov. 7, 2008

More than 70 beautifully decorated Christmas trees will be on display at the 20th Annual Festival of Trees, sponsored by the Friends of Calvert Hospice.

This year's festival will be held Nov. 28 through 30 at Huntingtown High School in Huntingtown.

Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children ages 4 to 12; 3 and younger get in for free.

Festival goers can do all of their holiday gift-buying at the Festival Shoppes, offering merchandise, art and unique crafts from more than 60 vendors and at the traditional Friends of Calvert Hospice Gift Shop, according to a press release.

The festival will include an array of activities and entertainment for the entire family throughout the holiday weekend. School, church and community vocal and instrumental groups will perform throughout the weekend.

Santa will be on-site for photos each day, but children ages 3 to 8 can have either breakfast or lunch with Santa on Saturday, Nov. 29. Reservations are required. For information, e-mail ddneill@comcast.net, or call 301-751-4158.

The preview dinner and auction will kick-off the event on Friday, Nov. 28, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Huntingtown High School, featuring dinner, a live and silent auction, and live music. Tickets are $75 and must be purchased in advance at the Calvert Hospice office, 238 Merrimac Court in Prince Frederick.

Proceeds from the Festival of Trees will benefit the Burnett-Calvert Hospice House, currently under construction on Sixes Road in Prince Frederick. Scheduled to open in 2009, the Hospice House will be a six-bed facility where patients will receive the same services as those in their own homes.

For more information, call 410-535-0892 or 301-855-1226 or go to www.calverthospice.org.

Buy footballs to raise funds for little patients

Through Dec. 19, volunteers with the Children's Miracle Network will be selling footballs at local Food Lion stores. Footballs are only $1, and all proceeds go directly to Children's Miracle Network, according to a press release. All money raised in this area stays in this area, and supports Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. These footballs are in two team colors: Redskins and Ravens.

The Children's Miracle Network is in need of an additional $125,000 dollars in this area for the year. For more information, call Aileen or Mary at 301-932-9500, or e-mail foodlion1316@ hotmail.com or foodlion1184@ hotmail.com.
