At right, George Owings III, former Maryland secretary of Veterans Affairs, salutes as the flag is placed Wednesday at the Veterans Day ceremony at the Calvert County Courthouse. The cold and rain moved the speaking part of the ceremony inside the building while flower wreaths were still placed at the war memorials on the Courthouse Green afterwards.

Below, World War II veteran and former state senator Bernie Fowler of Prince Frederick salutes during the playing of "Taps" Wednesday at the Veterans Day ceremony at the Calvert County Courthouse. Below, Iraq War veteran Anthony Ryan of Lusby sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the ceremony. Ryan also sang "American Soldier" by country artist Toby Keith.

Below, veterans Elroy Johnson and Leo Chase placed the KIA and MIA flags at the ceremony. The two are members of the VFW Gray Ray Post in Prince Frederick.

Below, from left, Huntingtown High School senior Angela Silva, former Secretary of Veteran's Affairs George Owings III and Huntingtown junior Angela Morgal salute after placing wreaths at the Korea/Vietnam War Memorial at the Calvert County Courthouse. Owings served in Vietnam in the Marines. Silva and Morgal are in the Navy JROTC.
