Family and friends gathered at St. Catherine Church Hall in Port Tobacco on Nov. 7 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Annie Cecelia Yates.
Yates was born on Nov. 7, 1909, and grew up in Newport.
She has seven siblings — Odell, Mary, John, Margaret, James, Thomas and George.
She is the mother of 12 — George, James, Thomas, Joseph, Mary Rita, Clarice, Susie, Mary Alice, Ruth, Barbara, Betty, Joyce and stepdaughter, Madeline.
Yates is a very dedicated and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, according to her family.
Yates shows compassion and consideration to everyone.
She can make a person laugh and cry at the same time; she tells it like it is and doesn't hold anything back.
She is a sweet, loving and caring person.
Her motto is, "Don't sit down, keep right on moving" and those who know her know that she does just that.
Her favorite saying is, "'Deed child, I'm tea potting."
