AmeriCorps volunteer needed
The St. Mary's County Department of Aging is looking for someone interested in working part time with the public, especially with people in need. Help is needed as an AmeriCorps volunteer to serve lunch to seniors living in a senior housing facility in Leonardtown and to assist with the St. Mary's County Department of Aging's Meals on Wheels program.
The successful candidate will work 20 to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The position pays a living allowance of $5,770 for a total of 900 hours work by Sept. 30, 2010. An educational award of $2362.50 is also available if 900 hours of employment are completed by Sept. 30, 2010.

Donations of fresh evergreen cuttings requested at Loffler
Loffler Senior Activity Center is looking for fresh evergreen cuttings for the center's Thanksgiving centerpiece workshop, scheduled for Nov. 24. It would be appreciated if someone with overgrown evergreens would be willing to trim them and drop the clippings off at Loffler any time before the 24th. The center will be looking for clippings again before Dec. 10 when the center prepares for its Christmas party.

Centerpiece class offered
Area seniors can learn how to make a Thanksgiving centerpiece at the Loffler Senior Activity Center on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 10 a.m. Cost of $10 includes all supplies and instruction.
As a bonus, participants who keep the greens from the centerpiece watered can easily transform this project into a Christmas centerpiece, with a few simple changes.

Northern to host bunco bonanza and pizza lunch
A pizza lunch will be served at the Northern Senior Activity Center on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at noon, followed by bunco games with prizes for the top winners.
Cost is $1 to play bunco.
Lunch reservations can be made by calling 301-475-4002, ext. 1001, or stopping by the center to sign up by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Cost for lunch is by donation for seniors 60 and older; $5 for individuals younger than 60.
Bakery bingo set for Nov. 23
Bakery bingo will be held at the Northern Senior Activity Center in Charlotte Hall on Monday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. Cost is $1.50 for two bingo cards. Baked goods will be served for a morning treat. Walk-ins are welcome.

Meet Mike' sessions cancelled for rest of year
Mike O'Brien will be not be available during the months of November and December to answer questions on the use of exercise equipment at the Northern Senior Activity Center in Charlotte Hall.

Garvey offers EnhanceFitness
The Garvey Senior Activity Center offers EnhanceFitness classes on Wednesday and Friday evenings at 5:30 p.m. The class is taught by a certified fitness instructor who has additional training in senior exercise. The class includes strength training, aerobics, stretching and balance exercises. The first class is free, and then a fitness card may be purchased for $30, which covers 10 classes. Additional daytime classes are also available at the Garvey, Northern and Loffler centers. For more information call 301-475-4200 ext. 1050.
