Athlete diary

The 2009 North Point varsity football season has officially come to an end.

We fell short in our bid to win a state championship by losing to Old Mill, 24-0, in the Class 4A East region semifinals. We gave all we had, but on that day the Old Mill Patriots were the better team.

Even though we fell short of our ultimate goal, this North Point team still has much to be proud of.

Our team went undefeated in the regular season, winning the SMAC championship for the second consecutive year. We were able to beat county rivals Lackey, McDonough and Westlake all on the road, beating Lackey in Overtime, coming back in the final minutes to overtake McDonough, and beating state champ Westlake in a hard fought war in the pouring rain. These are the building blocks for a program that boasts undefeated freshman and JV teams.

As seniors, we pass the baton to the underclassmen, knowing they will carry on the winning tradition and lead this team further than ever before.

As for myself, I plan on continuing my career in football at the collegiate level. While I have not committed to a school, I plan to major in communications or a media-related field. I am honored to be representing North Point and Southern Maryland in the second annual SMAC vs. P.G. All-Star Game [the Chick-fil-A Challenge] Dec. 12 at North Point High School.

In closing, I thank God for blessing me with the talent and providing me the opportunity to play the game I love.

I'd like to thank the Maryland Independent and its editors for allowing me to share my thoughts and feelings with its readers. I enjoyed writing this Diary and would encourage other athletes to do so.

Lastly, I'd like to thank my coaches and teammates for a great season. It was one I'll never forget. Thanks readers.
