Dumpster can't hide suspect

A complaint that someone had counterfeit money led to the Nov. 19 arrest of three men, one of whom police found hiding in a dumpster, according to sheriff's officers. At 3:48 p.m., officers went to Burger King at 1110 Smallwood Drive W. in Waldorf after hearing of the complaint.

When they arrived, officers spoke with someone who provided a description of the suspect's car, police reported. Officers found the car in the parking lot and stopped the vehicle.

The occupants, Jonathan Edward Delozier, 21, of Port Tobacco, Anthony Aaron Dell Acqua, 21, of Mechanicsville and Andrew Joseph Toye, 21, of Waldorf, reportedly left the car. Officers discovered that Delozier had counterfeit money, according to police. Acqua tried to run away, but officers chased him and found him hiding in a dumpster on Promenade Place, police reported.

Toye was arrested without incident. Marijuana was found inside the car, according to sheriff's officers. All three suspects were charged with possession with intent to distribute drugs. In addition, Delozier was charged with counterfeiting, and Acqua was charged with making a false statement after officers learned the name he originally provided was an alias, police reported.

Alleged baseball bat assault leads to arrest

A Waldorf man was charged with hitting an acquaintance with a baseball bat during an argument on Nov. 22, according to police.

At about 5 p.m., sheriff's officers went to the 5800 block of Gallant Green Road in Hughesville after someone reported the alleged assault. Jose Ignacio Leon Avila, 38, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. Officer R. Zink investigated.

Money swiped from White Plains gas station

Sheriff's officers are investigating a Nov. 21 incident at a White Plains gas station, in which a thief entered the store, walked around for several minutes and then slipped into a back office and stole money, according to police.

At 11:19 a.m., officers went to the Shell gas station at 4705 Crain Highway for a report of theft.

Half-pound of pot found in car, police say During the arrest of a 39-year-old man on Nov. 21, an off-duty sheriff's officer found a half-pound of marijuana inside the man's car, according to police. The officer stopped the vehicle in Waldorf near Leonardtown Road and Route 488 at about 1 a.m. after spotting the car being driven recklessly, according to police.

The officer spoke to the driver and allegedly smelled alcohol on the man's breath. There was also a smell of marijuana in the car, according to police.

In addition, Charles Brian Curtin, 39, of Mechanicsville, had a suspended driver's license, police reported. As Curtin was being arrested, police found marijuana in his car, according to police. Curtin was charged with possession with intent to distribute drugs and traffic-related offenses. Officer P. Deboe is investigating.

Man charged with assault in Bryans Road dispute

A woman cut her finger while grabbing a knife from a 48-year-old man who pulled the weapon during an argument in Bryans Road on Nov. 20, according to police. At 8:56 p.m., officers went to the 3900 block of Hems Court after someone reported an assault.

Gary Branson, of that address, had been fighting with other residents in the home when he pulled the knife, a preliminary investigation revealed.

As officers were talking with the victims, they encountered Branson, who appeared to be intoxicated, refused to follow directions and became combative, police reported.

A computer check showed he had an open warrant for failing to pay child support. Branson was arrested and charged with second- degree assault. Officer R. Boggs made the arrest.

Guns, ammo stolen during break-in

Someone stole several firearms and ammunition from an Indian Head home after smashing out the back door of the residence, according to police.

Sheriff's officers went to the home in the 4000 block of Doncaster Drive on Nov. 20. Officer M. Beall is investigating.
