Local company finedor water pollution

The Maryland Department of the Environment issued 39 enforcement actions recently totaling $758,710 in fines. Locally, Eddie Guy Inc. was issued a $52,000 penalty for alleged violations of sediment control and sediment pollution laws and water pollution, including failure to follow the sediment and erosion control plan during earth moving and other construction at the Avonlea Farm subdivision in Mechanicsville.

Forum set for energy and environment in county

The St. Mary's County League of Women Voters is planning a forum on Jan. 6, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Chesapeake Building, 41770 Baldridge St. in Leonardtown about the county's changing energy and environmental needs and resources. The event is free and open to the public.

Panel members include Del. Sally Jameson; St. Mary's County Commission President Francis Jack Russell; Lance McDaniel, environmental division director of Patuxent River Naval Air Station; and Jeff Shaw, environmental programs and energy conservation manager of SMECO. New schedule set for golf course advisory board

The Wicomico Shores Golf Course Advisory Board will now meet on a bi-monthly basis. The meetings are generally held at 6 p.m. at the Wicomico Shores Golf Course Clubhouse, 35794 Aviation Yacht Club Drive, Mechanicsville. Call 301-884-4601 to learn more.
