Stone's Javier Frontanes finishes fourth in 200 IM and third in the 100 fly Wednesday.

After dropping last week's season opener to SMAC power Leonardtown, Northern responded with a tri-meet sweep on both sides Wednesday evening at Lackey High School, as the boys earned two victories over Thomas Stone, 156-108, and Great Mills, 153-118. The girls defeated the Cougars, 160-118, and Great Mills, 173-107.

The Northern boys (2-1 overall/SMAC) captured six events and were led by two double winners in seniors Chris Cranford and Andrew Lacosse. Cranford took the top spot in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute 53.94 seconds and the 100 free in 52.68 seconds, while Lacosse won the 50 free (22.96) and 100 butterfly (1:00.31).

"I've swum all year round, and I've been working on my times," Cranford said. "I've been working hard to get back into it and it feels good to get pumped up before the race. Leonardtown was a tough meet to start off with. We didn't do too well, but it was first meet of the season and it woke everybody up today."

Northern placed first in two of the three relay events, winning in the 200 free and 400 free.

Northern's victories were a little overshadowed by Great Mills junior Melissa Boughton.

After breaking two Lackey pool records in last Friday's season-opening meet against Lackey and Patuxent in the 50 free (25.67) and the 100 fly (1:01.47), Boughton broke her third record of the season with a first-place win in the 100 free, touching the wall in 54.95. Boughton also claimed the top spot in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:21.73.

"It was all about going out there and swimming really fast and doing well for the team," Boughton said. "It was kind of like icing on the cake. In the beginning I wanted to swim a smart race and make sure that my times stay consistent with my training."

"She's already broken three pool records this season," said Great Mills head coach Caroline Dukich, whose girls team dropped to 1-3 on the season. "She's off to a really good start and I'm sure she will break more this season. She's probably going to have an amazing season."

Great Mills (2-2) defeated Thomas Stone, 155-112, as Ivan Palaroan won both the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:15.87, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.81.

The Hornets also claimed the top finish in the 200 medley relay, coming in with a time of 1:55.34. Matthew Brigham took first in the 500 free (6:16.47).

The Cougars (0-2), in their first meet of the season, were led by senior Jake Scannapieco who won the 100 backstroke (1:01.18) and took second in the 200 free behind Cranford with a time of 1:56.19.

Despite not having any double winners on the day the Northern girls were able improve to a 2-1 record after winning two individual events and evened out most of its team score with either second or third-place finishes in nine events, respectively.

Tayler Schaefer and Alina Zilevicius came first at the wall in the 50 free and 100 back, respectively. The Patriots also took the top spot in the 200 free relay in 1:57.37.

Stone (1-1) were highlighted by sophomore sensation Anise Forman who helped her team earn a 148-132 win over Great Mills, winning the 200 free and the 500 free, while anchoring her squad to a win in the 400 relay in the meet's last event with a time of 4:26.82.

"I did pretty good. I still want to drop a few times next week though," said Foreman, who noted that she swims at least twice a day during her training in the pool. "The team did really well today and I focused on my breathing and foot turning, which is basically the most important thing."

Stone senior Brooke Worrill earned a top spot in the 100 breast with a time of 1:21.92.

"Anise look great as always and we just want to get her primed for the SMAC, regional and state meets," Stone head coach Anthony Peck said. "Brooke was excellent in the breaststroke and has really come along way, dropping her times from last year. Jacob was phenomenal in the 200 and had a great seed time. We are a very young team, but we look good. I'm happy."
