Police are asking for any information that leads to the whereabouts of an inmate who escaped from the Southern Maryland Pre-Release Unit on Oaks Road in Charlotte Hall.
According to information from a release by the Maryland State Police's La Plata barrack, Michael Anthony Toye, 20, of Waldorf was serving the remainder of a three-year sentence for distribution of drugs and larceny.
Toye fled on foot while being escorted to the visitation area of the Southern Maryland Pre-Release Unit at 8:15 p.m. Friday.
Toye ran toward Oaks Road in Hughesville and two corrections officers were unable to catch him and were unable to identify a car that sped away from the area.
Sgt. Wilson with the La Plata barrack said in cases like these officers will check visitor logs and perform residence checks of friends and family among other tactics for leads or the location of the suspect. Wilson refused to give his first name to a reporter.
Wilson said officers are still investigating the matter and currently no information on Toye's whereabouts has surfaced. Wilson said he hopes that as information is released, someone who might have seen something or has information will call the La Plata barrack at 301-392-1200.
Toye is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds.
