Three-month-old Jacob Michael Tammaro was christened at the 19th Annual Festival of Trees held at Huntingtown High School Friday, Nov. 23. The Rev. Willie Davis, Calvert Hospice chaplain, performed the ceremony in front of the Calvert Hospice Memorial Tree.

Jacob’s parents, Michael and Jacqueline Tammaro, approached Davis wishing to have Jacob christened while relatives from Pennsylvania and West Virginia were in town for the Thanksgiving holiday.Ê

‘‘Since I was going to be at Festival of Trees they asked if I could work the christening in,” Davis said in a press release. He felt the Festival was an appropriate place to celebrate life. ‘‘Behind we had the tree of doves celebrating and memorializing life at its ending and in front we celebrated new life at its beginning,” Davis said.

The Memorial Tree stands at the main entrance of the Festival each year in memory of the Hospice patients and loved ones of bereavement clients who have died during the past year.Ê Doves carrying the name of the patient or loved one decorate the tree from top to bottom.Ê ÊÊ

The christening was a unique addition to the Festival of Trees this year.

‘‘It was a beautiful ceremony and we appreciate Rev. Davis so much,” said Sandy Humphreys, Jacob’s grandmother.
