At its Annual Meeting and Awards Program held in October, the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse Inc. (CAASA) elected its officers for 2008-2009. CAASA will be lead by Lt. Homer Rich, president; Loujeania Johnson, vice president; William Smith, treasurer; and Margaret Hallstead, secretary.
These volunteers were chosen by the CAASA Board of Directors and members to assist CAASA in attaining its mission of "involving the entire community in promoting a healthy environment free of alcohol and other drug abuse."
In addition, CAASA honored more than 60 individuals, local businesses and community groups for their alcohol and other drug prevention efforts in Calvert County. CAASA's highest honor, the Eagle Award, was awarded in four categories and presented to:
ï Boys & Girls Club of Southern Maryland — Community Eagle Award
ï Comcast — Business Eagle Award
ï Heather Hammett — Education Eagle Award
Tom Parran III — CAASA Board of Directors' Eagle Award
The recipients are leaders in the community who worked tirelessly to promote CAASA's prevention efforts in Calvert County, according to a press release. This was done through numerous program partnerships and volunteer efforts.
