My brother, Charles, joins me in wishing a very special couple a happy wedding anniversary. Ernie and Ann Bell of Leonardtown will celebrate on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, and we hope they have a wonderful day and many more happy years together.
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lexington Park will celebrate Mass on New Year's Day, Jan. 1, at 10 a.m.
Our area was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of a truly fine lady. Frances Martha "Ms. Frannie" Beitzell, 86, of Bushwood died at home surrounded by her family. In her earlier years, she was employed by the U.S. Census Bureau. She then met and married the late George Lee Beitzell on Sept. 20, 1947.
Deepest sympathy is extended to her children, Charles and Rose Beitzell, Eileen Beitzell, Mary Ida Rolape and Mable and Thomas Bailey; her nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
Ms. Frannie will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Seventh District Volunteer Rescue Squad or Hospice of St. Mary's.
A New Year's Eve Dance will be held Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception parish hall, located at 28297 Old Village Ave. in Mechanicsville. There will be a free breakfast at midnight, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and set-ups. This is a BYOB event. The tickets are $25 per person or $50 a couple.
For tickets or more information, call 301-884-2517 or 301-884-3123.
My brother, Charles, and I would like to wish a very happy birthday to a real nice lady, Marie Buckler of Mechanicsville. Marie will celebrate her special day on Jan. 5, and we hope she has a great day and many more ahead.
St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown will hold services on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, at 6 p.m. and Jan. 1 at 9:30 a.m.
Well, old man winter showed his face with a pretty good snowfall this month, the biggest one we have had in a few years. I would like to remind everyone to be careful when you go outside in the snow and ice. It is not a bad idea to stock up on extra groceries when we hear that a storm is coming, and do not go out unless it is necessary.
Remember friends, if you go out on New Year's Eve, please don't drink and drive. The life you save could be your own or a loved one.
I would like to thank all of my readers for sending me their news stories this past year, and I look forward to serving you in 2010.
Have a blessed and safe new year.
Send signed news to Audrey Ridgell, P.O. Box 457, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
