Gallery's holiday show inspired by gold, silver

Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009

"Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind; we'll take a cup of kindness, yet, for auld lang syne." Safe and happy new year wishes go out to everyone!

Don't miss "Days of Gold, Evenings of Silver," the 23rd Annual Holiday Show to run at the North End Gallery through Jan. 17.

"Silver and gold" is a phrase often associated with the holiday seasons and it is the inspiration for the title of the current exhibition. "Days of gold, evenings of silver" also describes those beautiful hours that grace many days during every season here in Southern Maryland, and painters and photographers so love to capture the effects.

Artists have wielded precious metals into wonderful creations for this exhibit. More subtly, the silver and gold effects may be seen in the glazes on a fine piece of pottery or stoneware or in the sheen of metalwork sculpture.

You may visit the North End Gallery, located at 41652 Fenwick Street just off the square in downtown Leonardtown, on Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. (closed Mondays). For more information call 301-475-3130 or visit www.northendgallery.org.

In observance of the holidays, SMECO offices will be closed Jan. 1, New Year's Day, and Jan. 18, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. SMECO's call center, however, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and may be reached by calling 888-440-3311. To report outages, you may call 877-74-SMECO anytime.
