3 teens charged in theft of vehicles

Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008

St. Mary's detectives report that three county teenagers have been charged in a series of vehicle thefts, including three taken last Friday morning in Lexington Park and one stolen in Prince George's County.

The three teenagers also tried to steal four cars in California, detectives allege, but the trio was unsuccessful in those attempts.

Two of the missing vehicles were recovered later on Friday, including one that a 19-year-old Great Mills resident was driving in Hyattsville, according to the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

A second vehicle was found abandoned that day on Treetop Road in Lexington Park.

Sheriff's deputies spotted the third missing vehicle traveling Saturday on Great Mills Road, detectives report, and a pursuit resulted in the arrest of the other two suspects — a 17-year-old Bushwood boy and a 17-year-old Lexington Park boy.

In addition, detectives report that a vehicle stolen from Prince George's County was recovered Friday at the Callaway Shopping Center.

The suspects from Bushwood and Lexington Park each were charged with four offenses of motor vehicle theft and four offenses of property destruction, St. Mary's detectives report, and the Great Mills resident was charged with one offense of motor vehicle theft.
